Kemi Olunloyo had earlier announced the death of Abba Kyari via a controversial tweet on her Twitter handle.
She had said, ” A HIGH RANKING member of President Buhari’s Cabinet has DIED of #CoronaVirus #Covid9 complications. I will give the feds the honor of announcing it. U cannot hide it like Yar’Adua. I’m not telling because I value NATIONAL SECURITY OF NIGERIA”
Abba Kyari had declared his positive status and he had been asked by President Buhari to embark on a sick leave.
He contracted the virus when he embarked on an international trip; at a time when the virus was at its peak in that country.
There were speculations that he had exposed other members of the state House to the virus since he didn’t isolate himself on arrival from his international trip.
Femi Adesina, President Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity announced his death on Twitter saying “Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, passes on. May God rest his soul. Amen. Funeral arrangements to be announced soon.”
Until his death Abba Kyari was President Buhari’s Chief of Staff. He has also been described as Buhari’s “right hand man”. At a time, Aisha Buhari complained he was the chief cabal controlling her husband in Aso Rock. It was also reported that all Ministers had to pass through him before they could see the president. Also, when President Buhari was recieving treatment in London, Kyari was among those that had close contact with the President. He died aged 80years.
Kemi Olunloyo, a US trained independent journalist has been arrested on several occasions for publishing controversial stories. So, when she tweeted about his death, she wasn’t taken seriously.
Meanwhile Scammers with a verified Kemi Olunloyo’s parody account have been using her name to receive funds.
She raised the alarm when she found the parody account with the handle @keminicationsmedia.
She has said she would leave Twitter until Twitter verifies her account. She had her Twitter account unverified in 2019. She lost her verified account when she changed the name of her handle from @HNNAfrica to @KemiOlunloyo. She said she had to change the handle due to some scammers that were impersonating her to peddle fake news.
Furthermore, She had reported to the Nigerian police that her son had gone missing. They still haven’t found him. She said, “Pls take care of yourselves and each other. I have tried for Nigeria on #IJCovid19. I will now suspend here. The police still can’t find my 28yo son and his roommate. Still declared missing. They fled their state when #Coronavirus started killing everyone. I will go offline 7pm.”
